Math

In Gr 6 Math we will be focussing on a different unit of student for each Semester. To start off the year, we will be focusing on Ratios, Rates and Percentages and developing a conceptual understanding of Ratios, by solving rich Math tasks using quantities, pairs and rows,

Students expand the scope of problems for which they can use multiplication and division to solve problems, and they connect ratios and fractions. Students will be exposed to modeling ratios in different ways and solving real life problems using ratios.

Student Success Criteria Includes:

Concepts and Procedures

“Students can apply mathematical concepts and carry out mathematical procedures with precision and fluency.”

Communication and Reasoning

“Students can clearly and precisely construct viable arguments to support their reasoning and communicate using different forms of mathematical representation.”

Problem-Solving

“Students can frame and solve a range of complex problems in pure and applied mathematics using a variety of problem solving strategies.”

Data Analysis or Modeling:

“Students can analyze complex, real-world scenarios and can construct and use mathematical models to interpret and solve problems.”

Science

In Science we will be focussing on developing  a deeper understanding of the world around them by making connections between the different disciplinary core domains of Science (Physical, Earth, Life) through the lens of the cross cutting concepts. Students will

- develop a deeper scientific understanding of the world around them by making connections between the different disciplinary core domains of science (physical, earth, life) through the lens of the cross-cutting concepts.

-learn about the broad disciplinary core ideas( DCI) through the scope of the four domains of science: Physical, Life, Earth and Space, and Engineering.

-be able to investigate the natural world and what engineers do to design and build systems by engaging in practices to build, deepen, and apply their knowledge of core ideas and crosscutting concepts.
