The Humanities 8 course is designed to ensure all students gain the skills and dispositions that allow you to:

  • Analyze the impact of author's choices (language, structure and point of view) on the development of a text.
  • Apply grade-level conventions, language and vocabulary in own writing.
  • Demonstrate command of the conventions of grammar and usage.
  • Identify and produce appropriate text types for a range of purposes and audiences.
  • Integrate knowledge and ideas.
  • Produce effective and organized informative writing for a specific audience to extend reader’s knowledge or acceptance of ideas and procedures on a topic or event.
  • Produce informative writing to convey complex ideas and information through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.
  • Research to build and present knowledge.
  • Understand how key ideas, details and themes develop and evolve over the course of a text.
  • Understand social studies concepts at a depth sufficient to apply critical-thinking and problem solving skills in the context of relevant, real world, engaging issues.
